Bev has worked as a biometrician in grains related research since joining the University in 2006. She has had continuous funding by the Australian Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) through the Statistics for the Australian Grains Industry (SAGI) projects and is currently a program leader within the SAGI III project, Southern Node (SAGI-STH). Her expertise is in the application of advanced linear mixed modelling technologies for the analysis of data from agronomic and plant breeding programs.

Bev has been pivotal in establishing the SAGI-STH Biometrics Education Initiative (SSBEI). The SSBEI is educating grains researchers in best practice statistical technologies for use in the design and analysis of agronomic comparative and plant breeding experiments. Increasing the statistics capacity of grains researchers is ensuring the ongoing efficacy of grains research in Australia, with lasting impacts across the wider industry.

A career highlight for Bev has been working in close collaboration with Professor Brian Cullis, University of Wollongong and Professor Robin Thompson, Rothamsted Research as a member of the ASReml-R software development team. She is currently working with Professor Cullis and Dr Alison Smith on an improved methodology for the estimation of yield responsiveness measure. This will have widespread application across a range of settings. She is also working with Dr Smith and Professor Cullis on a gold standard analysis method for the National Variety Trials (NVT) system.
