Bernd Froessler

Bernd Froessler

Bernd is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Lyell McEwin Hospital and an Clinical Professor at the University of Adelaide. Bernd was born in Germany and completed undergraduate training in 1988 at the University of Cologne in Germany. He trained in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in Germany, completing his specialist exam in Anaesthesia in Germany in 1993 and becoming board certified in Anaesthesia, in the Netherlands in 1996. In 1995, Bernd completed the Australian Medical Council Exam and in 2002 completed his Australian Fellowship Exam in Anaesthesia, FANZCA. He has worked as a specialist in Germany, Holland and Australia.

Since 2006, Bernd has been involved in various projects with the Australian National Blood Authority, the Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, the South Australian Blood Management Council and the National Transfusion Committee.

Bernd’s research interests are in iron metabolism, cardiovascular function and peri-operative and peripartum blood management. He has published multiple journal articles on the topic.

Bernd is hoping to establish more research activity at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in collaboration with the University of Adelaide. He is hoping to emphasise the importance and impact of clinical research on improved patient outcomes.
