Arman Niknam is a researcher with a background in civil and environmental engineering, specialising in environmental–economic accounting and ecosystem service assessment. His work focuses on integrating spatial modelling, land-use analysis, and biophysical flow accounts to support policy-relevant decision-making. He is currently working on developing environmental accounts for the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth (CLLMM) system, with an emphasis on nutrient and sediment dynamics within the SEEA-EA framework.

Assessing the climate impacts on ecosystem services and building an environmental economic accounting of the CLLMM

Project overview

Ecosystem services of the region are already being impacted or will become impacted by climate change. Adapting to changing climate impacts is about building resilience in ecosystems and within the community to face the current challenges and planning for an uncertain but inevitable future.

The environmental and economic future of the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth (CLLMM) region are closely linked through the ecosystem services it provides. However, limited data on non-market services hampers balanced decision-making.

This project aims to initiate a Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) framework by:

1- Assessing ecosystem extent and condition

2- Mapping ecosystem service supply using InVEST

3- Reviewing valuation methods for both market and non-market services

Another Project :

  • Value of South Australia's national parks and reserves
