Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD (as Co-Supervisor) - email supervisor to discuss availability.

Anne is the Lead for the South Australian Chronic Pain Statewide Clinical Network (CEIH: Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health), Co-Director - Psychology (CALHN: Central Adelaide Local Health Network) and Past President (2019-2021) of the Australian Pain Society. She is also a Clinical Professor with the University of Adelaide (where she completed her PhD studies in the area of chronic pain) and a registered Clinical and Health Psychologist with dual endorsement in both areas of specialist practice. Anne has supervised and conducted research in the areas of forensic and clinical health psychology, with her primary research interests being the management of pain and other chronic health conditions, the impact of waiting for services, clinical workforce issues, and health service design and delivery.

I am happy to discuss proposals that are broadly related to my research interests as outlined above. Projects that have been specifically identified are listed below.

Project: Improving the pathway to bariatric surgery

We are seeking Honours, Masters and PhD students interested in exploring options to refine the pathway to bariatric surgery (including screening, behaviour change and selection) in order to improve patient outcomes.  The focus of the research will be discussed with potential students, but can include small discrete projects that would suit all levels of candidature from Honours through to substantial PhD projects.  The methodology can be qualitative, quantitative and/or mixed methods.  Supervision can be provided by a range of academics and clinicians, but the core group from whom supervision will be offered includes: Professor Jane Andrews (Gastroenterologist, Medical Lead S3 - Gastroenterology, General & GI Surgery, Central Adelaide Local Health Network), Professor Anna Chur-Hansen (Health Psychologist, University of Adelaide), and Kathryn Collins and myself (Co-Directors, Health and Clinical Psychologists, Psychology, Central Adelaide Local Health Network).
