I am a current Doctor of Philosophy with Master of Psychology (Organisational & Human Factors) student, supervised by Professor Anna Chur-Hansen, Professor Deborah Turnbull and Associate Professor Carolyn Semmler. I combine a professional background in design, business development and management with my study of human behaviour to understand and improve organisations and how people work within them both individually and in groups.
The ethical and economic cases for more women leaders are compelling, yet women remain underrepresented in leadership positions. One strategy to address this imbalance is leadership development programs specifically for women. That these efforts will result in improved leadership skills and organisational benefits appears to be taken for granted by many organisations and providers, as evaluations of these programs are complex and rarely undertaken. Given the slow pace at which women are progressing into leadership it is difficult to determine whether these efforts have value. My research examines the impact of and justification for women’s leadership programs within organisations.
