Dr Andrew Zamecnik is an early career researcher at Adelaide University with the Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning (C3L). With a PhD in Learning Analytics, his research examines learners’ teaming behaviours, such as team cohesion and psychological safety in collaborative learning contexts. He aims to promote real-time analytics in the classroom with AI to augment instructors with dynamic feedback, fostering personal and social capabilities in collaborative learning contexts. Andrew has developed sophisticated tools and approaches for collaborative learning, utilising innovative research and methodologies to improve learner outcomes. His experiences and efforts have led him to work with prominent research centres, international academics, and industry partners. He partnered with global education leaders to design and implement a data standard framework to help credentialise lifelong learner achievements, a project supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Andrew is actively advancing AI-driven education. His work is focused on fostering behaviour development in teams through innovative assessment methods in K-12, higher education, and work-integrated learning settings. As an early-career researcher, he is dedicated to enhancing learning experiences for students at all levels.

I am a Research Fellow at Adelaide University's Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning (C3L) in the School of Education, where I lead a research program at the intersection of learning analytics and artificial intelligence in education. Collaboration is among the most valued capabilities in modern curricula, yet it remains largely invisible to assessment. Beginning with my doctoral work on team cohesion in technology-mediated learning, I have progressively built the methods and tools to make collaborative problem-solving (CPS) observable in authentic settings. Central to this agenda is an AI platform I lead at C3L that captures CPS skills and learning dispositions in real time from classroom interactions and delivers evidence-informed feedback to teachers — moving the field beyond post hoc evaluation of teamwork toward responsive, in situ support for collaboration. I employ mixed methods with a commitment to equity by design, developing AI technologies that mitigate bias and cultivate an inclusive, AI-competent workforce. A complementary strand of my research examines human-AI teaming, how trust forms in human-autonomous teams and what AI requires to be a credible analytic partner in learning. Both strands converge on a single ambition: assessment of collaboration that teachers can trust and act on.
