I'm a researcher in the Visual Physiology and Neurobotics Laboratory at the University of Adelaide. I'm investigating the response of dragonfly brain cells to motion, especially the degree of adaptation they exhibit to various visual statistics and circumstances and how they encode information.
I do this via intracellular electrophysiology, directly recording the electrical activity inside a neuron with an extremely sharp electrode, while displaying precisely controlled motion sequences to the immobilised dragonfly.
