Alison Coleman is a Teaching Academic and Lecturer within Education Futures at the University of South Australia. She primarily lectures in secondary teacher education courses, specialising in Design and Technologies, with a particular focus on Food and Textiles Technology. Alison has a strong emphasis on curriculum understanding and planning. Prior to teaching in the tertiary space Alison was a secondary educator for 14 years in both in the classroom and various leadership positions.
Her master’s research explored how experiential, object-based, and creative learning can support adolescent well-being by providing opportunities to practice mindfulness and engage in activities that foster a sense of connection and belonging. Weaving served as the primary medium for this study, highlighting the process of skill acquisition necessary to achieve these outcomes.
Alison’s PhD research investigates the potential of integrating textiles technologies within the ethics of care framework to enhance learner engagement in secondary education settings.
