Dr Alice Betteridge

Dr Alice Betteridge is a Lecturer and Program Director at Adelaide University Pathways College. With a PhD in Microbiology and Biotechnology, her early research focused on improving winemaking efficiency through the development of superior lactic acid bacteria for malolactic fermentation. Prior to joining the College in 2018, she taught across undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Adelaide.
 
Alice's current research focuses on enabling education, student transition, belonging, self-regulated learning, and STEM and health science education. Her work explores how curriculum design, assessment practices, and student support initiatives can improve engagement, retention, and success for students from diverse educational backgrounds. She has led numerous innovations in authentic assessment, learning strategy development, and transition support programs, with a particular focus on building students' confidence, curiosity, and academic identity.
 
As a program leader and educator, Alice is committed to creating inclusive and evidence-informed learning environments that support student success and widen participation in higher education. She regularly presents her work at national conferences and contributes to scholarship that advances understanding of student learning and success in enabling and pathway education.
 
Research interests: Enabling education; student transition and belonging; self-regulated learning; STEM and health science education; assessment and feedback; equity and widening participation; student success and retention.
