Ms Alexsia Houridis
Lecturer
School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences
College of Sciences
Alexsia is a veterinary educator and emerging scholar in health professions education whose work examines how professional capability is conceptualised, developed, and assessed within clinical education. Her research is driven by a commitment to advancing the veterinary nursing and technology profession through theoretically grounded and evidence-informed educational practice.
She is currently undertaking a PhD exploring the conceptualisation of work readiness across health professions. Her doctoral research critically analyses how work readiness is defined, interpreted, and operationalised, addressing persistent inconsistencies in terminology and expectations. By examining the relationship between work readiness, competency, employability, and transition to practice, her work seeks to strengthen conceptual clarity and inform more coherent curriculum design and workplace-based assessment approaches.
Holding a Master of Clinical Education and formal qualifications in higher education curriculum and teaching, Alexsia integrates pedagogical theory with extensive clinical veterinary nursing experience. Her broader scholarship focuses on competency frameworks, entrustment, workplace-based assessment, and the professionalisation of veterinary nursing and technology.
Through peer-reviewed publication, editorial leadership, and national professional engagement, she contributes to strengthening research capacity and advancing scholarly discourse within veterinary education.
