Alexa McArthur is a nurse/midwife and a Senior Research Fellow in the Implementation Science program at JBI. JBI is a global organisation promoting and supporting evidence based decisions that improve health and health service delivery.
JBI offers a unique range of solutions to access, appraise and apply the best available evidence. Alexa has worked clinically within both Australia and international settings including Nepal, the UK and Somalia. Her work has global impact, with highlights involving the facilitation of clinicians in evidence-based implementation training programs, often linked with our JBI Collaboration, a network of 80 centres with thousands of people contributing to this vision around the world. She has had various roles within JBI, and is currently working delivering high quality educational short course training programs, which focus on research synthesis and evidence implementation.

Alexa’s research interests include involvement with a team of international researchers to further develop text, opinion and policy systematic reviews, and implementation methodology for JBI. Previous research highlights include projects for the Heart Foundation of Australia; the SAX Institute on safe management of expressed breastmilk; the Centre of Research Excellence in Aboriginal Chronic Disease Knowledge Translation and Exchange (CREATE); and an implementation study which focused on in-hospital falls prevention for the HCF Health and Medical Research Foundation. Other highlights include working with healthcare professionals on implementing Delirium guidelines into clinical practice, through facilitating the JBI Evidence-based Clinical Fellowship program, and conducting clinical leadership workshops with health professionals in Papua New Guinea.

Currently Alexa is also undertaking her PhD with JBI, with a focus on the development of pragmatic quality indicators for evidence implementation.

My research has been in the area of evidence synthesis, evidence transfer and evidence implementation with a particular focus on midwifery and nursing clinical care issues. Recent research highlights include projects for the SAX Institute on safe management of expressed breastmilk; working with the Centre of Research Excellence in Aboriginal Chronic Disease Knowledge Translation and Exchange (CREATE) as an Associate Investigator; and an implementation study which focused on in-hospital falls prevention for the HCF Health and Medical Research Foundation. I have also been involved with leading a group of international researchers to further develop text and opinion systematic reviews, and an implementation methodology working group at JBI.
