Dr Adam Abersteiner is a researcher who uses petrology and geochemistry to understand the petrogenesis of ultramafic-mafic rocks and ore mineralization. One of the key methods driving Adam's research is the study of melt/fluid inclusions and in-situ micoranalytical techniques in order to reconstruct the original composition and evolution of melts and fluids leading to rock formation and/or mineralization. Adam has worked extensively in a variety of unusual rock types, including mantle-derived xenoliths, kimberlites, orangeites, carbonatites and lamproites, as well as more common basalts and mafic intrusion systems. Adam's current interests at ISER include understanding the origin and formation of magmatic Ni-Cu and platinum group element deposits (PGE) from around Australia and worldwide.
