Abhinava Barthakur is a Postdoctoral research fellow with UniSA, Education Futures and is also affiliated with the Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning. research focuses on developing novel human-centred assessment models for measuring complex competencies, which are rooted in learning analytics and measurement theory. In doing so, he utilizes various data science and psychometrics models to provide diagnostic information about student learning within higher education and in the context of professional learning. He is also interested in a learner profile approach of representing the acquisition of some of these competencies and shifting the focus from high-stakes grades through static assessments within education institutions. Prior to joining as a postdoctoral fellow, he completed his PhD from UniSA, STEM, and his doctoral dissertation evaluated the acquisition and learning of leadership skills in online learning settings. He is also a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is an active member of the Learning Analytics community and is serving as the production editor for the Journal of Learning Analytics. In the past, he has served as the proceedings co-chair of the 12th and 13th International Conference of Learning Analytics & Knowledge.
