Dr. Melinda Gaughwin is a designer, design researcher, educator and artist, and a Lecturer in Design at Adelaide University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Screen Studies), a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) (Honours) and a Ph.D. in Design Studies. With over a decade of teaching at the University of Sydney, the University of South Australia and Adelaide University, her academic work critiques how design and technology shape social and political environments. She also contributes to partnered research in community connection and sustainable design, and is listed among Adelaide University’s AI experts. Melinda’s interdisciplinary art practice, informed by critical and speculative design, merges poetry, illustration, electronica, video, movement and voice, addressing posthumanism and environmental change. A two-time finalist in the Heysen Prize for Landscape (2024 and 2026), her work invites reflection on humanity’s technological and ecological traces, extending her research on design’s societal impact into imagined futures.
