Dr Mark Catley

Senior Lecturer, Physiotherapy

School of Allied Health and Human Performance

College of Health

Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD (as Co-Supervisor) - email supervisor to discuss availability.

Mark is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Allied Health & Human Performance. He is Director of the Professional Certificate in Pain Sciences program and has led the development, coordination, and embedding of pain curricula across undergraduate, postgraduate, and multidisciplinary allied health programs since 2013. His work has directly shaped institutional pain education strategy, including the transition to blended and online delivery models and the design of pain‑specific courses for the allied health programs. He has held the role of Clinical Year Coordinator in pre‑registration physiotherapy programs since 2018 and has been repeatedly recognised for sustained excellence in teaching.

Mark is a member of the Innovation, Implementation & Clinical Translation (IIMPACT in Health). With a background in physiotherapy and education, his research has a clinical focus in four main areas: (1) the role of therapeutic pain sciences education (i.e. Explain Pain) in the management of people with pain, (2) the investigation of pain-related sensorimotor impairments in people with persistent pain, (3) the psychometric evaluation of clinical assessment and screening tools, and (4) clinician training in pain . Mark's work has been presented in peer-reviewed journals and conference abstracts and he has been both keynote and invited speaker at national and international conferences. He has also contributed book chapters on the topics of pain assessment, pain management and pain sciences education.
