Teaching and Learning Innovation
Academic
I am a Lecturer in Academic Development at Adelaide University. My work focuses on inclusive, high-quality programs that combine traditional and innovative teaching approaches to foster engagement and academic success. I hold a Senior Fellowship with Advance HE (SFHEA).
My PhD research in Educational Technologies focused on improving student retention in online education, exploring factors such as cultural issues, motivation, Learning Management Systems, and online pedagogies. Through qualitative case studies with online lecturers from six countries, I identified effective strategies for enhancing student engagement, highlighting the important role of educators in online learning environments.
Prior to joining UniSA and Adelaide University, I worked as an Educational Designer for Monash University, where I provided educational advice and design expertise to support academic and professional staff. This role involved a comprehensive approach to unit revitalisation, ensuring that units were constructively aligned and designed with authentic assessments. Additionally, as an Online Learning Advisor for fully online postgraduate courses at Queensland University of Technology, I support student learning in the Graduate Certificate in Education (Innovative Learning Design) and the Master of Education.
Contributions to learning and teaching have been recognised with a Dean's Award for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (Business School) and a DVCE Role Model Award for Educational Design at Monash University, recognising innovative approaches to enhancing student learning.
My PhD research focused on Educational Technologies, specifically exploring how digital tools can be integrated into higher education to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement. My work examined the effective use of technology in curriculum delivery and its impact on student engagement and retention.
Current research interests include supporting academics in curriculum development, and the use of technology to create more engaging, accessible, and efficient learning environments. I am particularly focused on the role of AI in shaping the future of education and the ways in which it can support both teaching practices and student success.
