College of Engineering and Information Technology
I am a PhD student in Bioinformatics at the University of South Australia, where I also work as a tutor teaching Data Wrangling and Social Media Analytics. My doctoral research focuses on developing computer-based methods to identify genes that cause Long COVID and cancer, integrating multiple types of biological data to find potential personalised treatment targets.
I have a diverse scientific background with a Master's in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Fiocruz in Brazil, where I developed a new drug treatment for Acute Lymphoid Leukemia. I also hold a Bachelor's in Biotechnology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where where I engineered heterologous expression systems. My skills cover both laboratory work and computer programming, with experience in Python, R, and various data analysis tools.
My research experience includes positions at leading institutions: as a Biotechnology Researcher at Oxiteno developing recombinant microorganisms for industrial applications, and as a Bioinformatics Intern at A.C. Camargo Cancer Center working on Lung Adenocarcinoma prognosis. I have mentored students in advanced bioinformatics and biopharmaceutical development, and have been active in the scientific community through presentations at international conferences and leadership roles in PyLadies Brazil and Women in Bioinformatics groups.
Currently preparing manuscripts on Long COVID causal gene identification and computational methods for disease prediction, my work aims to bridge the gap between computational methods and biological applications, ultimately contributing to precision medicine and therapeutic development.
I am supported by the Research Training Program International (RTPi) and University Presidents Scholarship (UPS), and welcome collaborations in bioinformatics, causal inference, and multi-omics data integration.
Doctoral Research Focus (2022 - Present): Developing different computational frameworks for personalized medicine for Long COVID.
