Dr Michelle Guerin (PhD, B.Physio) is a Lecturer at the University of South Australia within the Allied Health and Human Performance Academic Unit. Michelle is interested in improving the quality of health care through teaching and researching in evidence-based practice, service delivery and health care system design across a range of areas including acute, community, disability and aged care. Michelle’s teaching and research has a strong focus on those that are vulnerable in our health care system.
Michelle has considerable experience as a qualitative researcher (primary and secondary research) and has successfully undertaken a range of research projects focussing on those members of society that are traditionally excluded from research, including people living with moderate to severe acquired and traumatic brain injuries, people with advanced dementia and those living in residential care.
Michelle is passionate about positively impacting health care and improving health outcomes.
Dr Guerin is passionate about positively impacting health care and improving health outcomes, particularly for those that are vulnerable in our health care system.
Dr Guerin is currently collaborating with Relationships Australia South Australia to co-lead a key project into the development and evaluation of a trauma-informed training package for Australian counsellors to support them to collaborate therapeutically with individuals living with disability, their families and carers.
Dr Guerin currently has an interprofessional collaborations with the University of Sydney investigating the properties of a standardised tool (Evaluation of Foundational Placement Competencies tool) for assessing students’ readiness for transitioning from on-campus ‘theoretical-based learning’, to clinical-based ‘experiential learning’.
