Professor Emily Hilder was the inaugural Director of the University of South Australia’s Future Industries Institute (FII). Prof Hilder worked to connect FII’s world-class research with industry and end-users across FII’s four strands: minerals and resources engineering, energy and advanced manufacturing, environmental science and engineering, and biomaterials engineering and nanomedicine. At FII she was focussed on interdisciplinary and collaborative research, embedding an entrepreneurial research culture and supporting greater engagement with industry.Prof Hilder’s personal passion for research has always been inspired by the need to solve real world issues. She was included in The Analytical Scientist’s ‘Top 40 under 40’ Power List in 2014 and as one of the top 10 Leaders in Analytical Science in 2017 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.Prof Hilder is an analytical chemist and her own research focuses on the design and application of new polymeric materials that can be used to improve analytical measurements including the application of these new technologies for separations, bio-analysis and disease diagnosis.
