Dr Bradley Kirk had completed his PhD (Chemistry) at Flinders University in 2023. During his time at Flinders University, his research focus was towards the development of scalable organic photovoltaic (OPV) fabrication, in-depth investigation of degradation pathways associated with OPVs, as well as strategies for improving the lifespan that could be utilised in industry-scale manufacturing of flexible solar cells. Since moving to University of Adelaide as a grant-funded researcher at the University of Adelaide in early 2024, he has been working on the development of beta voltaic (BV) devices, in collaboration with EntX Ltd. and University of South Australia. The research project aims at investigating the influence of materials have over the device performance and lifespan of BVs.

My research is towards the development and characterisation of materials used in beta voltaic devices. This is achieved by utilising a variety of analytical techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). I also specialise in thin-film deposition, having experience with both vacuum (i.e. thermal and sputtering) and solvent-based (i.e. spin, blade and slot-die) coating methods, over flexible and rigid substrates.
