I am a PhD candidate in the School of Psychology, researching the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals online and the effects of their engagement on mental and physical wellbeing. My work explores various aspects of internet and social media use; this includes how LGBTQ+ people engage with online health content, (e.g., content related to mental health, diet and fitness, and alcohol or drug use) and how this shapes health behaviours and beliefs. I also examine how LGBTQ+ individuals navigate community dynamics in online spaces, the role of algorithmic and platform structures, and how online experiences intersect with broader cultural narratives and changes. My research sits within the fields of health psychology and social psychology. This includes considering wellbeing and health from a biopsychosociocultural approach, recognising that these can be shaped by biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.I am particularly interested in qualitative research methodologies, especially reflexive thematic analysis. My broader research interests include LGBTQ+ wellbeing, identity development and community, and online cultures and subcultures.
