Kana is currently a PhD student at the Australian School of Petroleum & Energy Resources. He holds a B.Eng. (Hons) in Petroleum Engineering from PETRONAS University of Technology and a M.Sc. in Energy from Heriot Watt University.
Prior joining the university, Kana spent 10 years working in the oil and gas industry as a drilling supervisor and senior well engineer. Kana spent most of his career working offshore in the South-East Asia region gaining experience on drilling application such as Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD), Extended reach drilling (ERD) and carbonate drilling. He has also been exposed to the wide spectrum of drilling from contracting, well engineering, technical limit, well construction, well completion, and well intervention.
Kana has a strong interest in energy transition mainly on the application of drilling and completion technology in carbon capture, and storage (CCS), and hydrogen storage.
My research focuses on the subject of well integrity in geological CO2 storage and underground hydrogen storage. This research aims to better understand the casing-cement interface and will include geochemical modeling which illustrates the chemical interaction of the interface upon exposure to CO2 and H2.
