Dr Ralf Mouthaan
Postdoctoral Researcher
School of Biological Sciences
Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology
Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD (as Co-Supervisor) - email supervisor to discuss availability.
Ralf obtained an MSci in Physics at the University of Nottingham in 2008 after which he joined the National Physical Laboratory as a research scientist. His work at NPL was aimed at maintaining and developing the UK’s national RF & microwave standards with a focus on metrology for electromagnetic safety.
In 2016, Ralf moved to the University of Cambridge where he studies for an MRes in Sensor Technologies, and subsequently a PhD. During this time, Ralf worked on developing holographic techniques for controlling light propagation down hollow-core and liquid-core optical fibres. Applications for this work include imaging through the fibre, spatially resolved chemical sensing within the fibre, and optical trapping at the tip of the fibre.
Ralf joined the University of Adelaide's Centre of Light for Life in 2023, and is now investigating the application of wavefront shaping to biological problems.
