I am a Lecturer in Economics at the School of Economics and Public Policy, University of Adelaide.
My research brings together labor economics, public health, and environmental concerns. I study how work conditions, job risk, and wages affect workers’ health and safety—examining how those in hazardous jobs are compensated and what drives decisions around workplace wellbeing.
How do we measure the economic benefit of life-saving government policies? That’s the question at the heart of my doctoral research, where I estimated the Value of Statistical Life (VSL) using evidence from the Indian labor market. My work helps explain how societies value risk and safety, and how such valuations guide policy decisions. I have also led primary survey research to explore how workers perceive and respond to job-related hazards, and I continue to use data-driven methods to study workplace safety and health.
My current research explores how visits to national parks and greenspaces contribute to people’s health and wellbeing, and whether these benefits are shared equally across different communities. I’m especially interested in understanding the wider social and economic value of park use, including how it might help reduce pressure on the healthcare system. This work highlights the role of green spaces as essential public assets that promote both individual wellbeing and social equity.
I hold a PhD, MSc, and BSc (Hons) degree in Economics from India, and have worked across reputed academic institutions in both India and Australia. These experiences have shaped a grounded, cross-cultural perspective that helps me connect economic research with the lived realities of people and policy.
