Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
My obsession to nutrition started back during my college life, from when I found myself to be fascinated by biological sciences. Although I initially wanted to be a doctor, I later discovered that the field of “Human Nutrition” would be an excellent opportunity for me to realize my aspiration in the context of the socioeconomic and health-related welfare of my countrymen and women. Upon entering university, I first tasted the pleasure of clinical and lab-based research in nutrition. I think it is that research-derived pleasure that has ultimately matured into a strong desire to pursue doctorate research in human nutrition, metabolic disorder and related fields. I also dream of contributing to the socioeconomic development of my country by becoming a sound researcher in human nutrition, a field of study closely related to human development. Nutrition is a critical area in human development, and is rightly included in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition to the existing problem of undernutrition, the prevalence of obesity and obesity-related complications (Dual Burden of Malnutrition) and metabolic disorder is increasing worldwide. A working title of my Ph.D. thesis is "Hypoglycemia and Delayed Gastric Emptying in Diabetes", which will be carried out in the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences (Adelaide Medical School) at the University of Adelaide. I have been awarded the Full Fee RTP Scholarship by the University of Adelaide for pursuing my Ph.D. Degree under distinguished Researcher Prof. Karen Jones, Prof. Michael Horowitz and Dr. Chinmay Marathe. After successful completion of my PhD, I hope to do a Postdoc on the more precise objective to narrow down my research area and to dedicate myself to nutrition and metabolic disorder and the academic field.
Basically, I am from Bangladesh, born and raised there, have completed my first MSc and BSc in Applied Nutrition and Food Technology from Islamic University, Kushtia, Bangladesh. Then to prepare myself adequately for strenuous journey of PhD research, I have completed a second Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Nutrition and Rural Development (Main: Human Nutrition) from the prestigious Ghent University in Belgium. My time at Ghent University has helped me fine-tune my research focus and has drawn me to the complex and updated research at the molecular level.
Over my past 11 years of teaching career in Bangladesh, I have trained undergraduate and graduate students as a supervisor or co-supervisor of B.Sc. projects and M.Sc. thesis and published more than 20research articles and three conference proceedings. I have served as a clinical Dietician at Evercare Hospital (formerly Apollo Hospital) based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a Dietician, I have learned the clinical aspects of disease prevention and treatment using the dietary approach. Besides building a solid repertoire of theoretical knowledge, I believe it is incredibly crucial for a researcher to acquire laboratory skills and develop confidence in discussing science and mentoring students.
