My research examines how the Protestant martyrologist, John Foxe (1516-87), documented the ordeals of each of the martyrs executed under Mary I. It seeks to demonstrate that Foxe formulated unique templates of piety and suffering that were tailored towards specific demographics across his readership, including mothers, former apostates, lay persons, and martyrs living with disabilities.
