Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

Dr Mia Majstorovic holds a PhD in Health Psychology from the University of Adelaide. Under the supervision of Professors Anna Chur-Hansen, Jane Andrews and Anne Burke, Mia's doctoral research explored barriers and enablers to accessing bariatric (weight-loss) surgery in Australia and New Zealand. More broadly, her research focuses on chronic health conditions and their interrelationships with psychological (ill)health. She adopts a biopsychosociocultural approach to understanding health issues.

Currently, Mia is a postdoctoral researcher in health psychology at the University of Adelaide. She is working on a qualitative study about the experiences and views of families and healthcare professionals regarding screening and monitoring for type 1 diabetes. Led by Professor Jenny Couper, the project aims to inform the potential development of a national screening and monitoring program for the condition.

Mia primarily employs qualitative and review methodologies but remains open to quantitative methods. She also loves teaching and actively engaging with others to share and expand knowledge and understanding, particularly in health psychology.
