Reproducing Acoustics in Virtual Reality using Autonomous Robotics Mapping
This project aims to develop an innovative autonomous robotic system capable of mapping the acoustics of complex indoor environments. The system will integrate acoustic mapping with visual mapping to facilitate auralization in virtual reality. The acoustic mapping will include estimations of parameters such as absorption coefficients, which can be adjusted within the virtual environment to assist acoustic engineers in designing room treatments. The project’s outcomes will enable the acoustic mapping of event venues, allowing for virtual reality reproductions of musical and theatrical performances. These reproductions will preserve historically and artistically significant performances, providing a digital experience that simulates the sensation of being physically present.
