Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology

Dr Qiang (Dan) Gao is a sustainable energy specialist with an electrical power engineering background. He has a breadth of extensive experience and expertise in offshore renewable (offshore wind and wave) energy and grid integration, specifically in energy assessment, energy systems development, storage system modelling and power system operation. He is highly skilled in renewable energy system design, feasibility and optimization analysis, techno-economic assessment and energy markets.

Dan is a research fellow at the Australia-China Joint Research Centre of Offshore Wind and Wave Energy Harnessing at the University of Adelaide. He also works as a senior technical consultant at Aurecon Group. His research focuses on the innovation in hybrid offshore wind and wave energy conversion systems in system modelling and design, power intermittence, energy dispatchability, and energy storage applications. He develops several novel matrices to assess the technical capacity and economic feasibility of ocean renewables. Dan's valuable insights and innovations continue to drive progress in the sustainable energy sector.
