Summary
Dr Asare is a post-doctoral researcher with the Inflammatory Lung Disease Research Group based in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Adelaide. He is a pharmacist interested in improving the current standard of healthcare through discovery of innovative medicines.
Research experience
Dr Asare has gained knowledge and skills required for creating novel breakthrough against cancer, inflammatory lung and cardiovascular diseases-from R&D to clinical trials. As a leader of a clinical study that seeks to investigate the repurposing of pharmaceutical products, Patrick has been able to establish a network of collaboration with clinicians and other leading research groups across hospitals and research centers in Australia. He is able to draw on his experience in patient recruitment, assessment and monitoring to successfully complete clinical research projects. Dr Asare enjoys analyzing and interpreting complex data to arrive at a valid conclusion.

Evidence of success and emerging reputation in the field:
- 2020 Recipient of the prestigious South Australia New Investigator Award presented by the peak society for Respiratory medicine in Australia and New Zealand (Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, TSANZ).
- 2021 Selection as a finalist for National TSANZ Ann Woolock New Investigator Award (note, these prestigious awards are given to only one person per year working in Australia or New Zealand).
- 2020 Award of Royal Adelaide Hospital Medical Staff Society Research Prize
- 2021 Dean’s Commendation of Doctoral Thesis Excellence Award from the University of Adelaide.
- 2022 Appointment as Laboratory Manager of the internationally recognised Chronic Inflammatory Lung Disease Research Lab of the University of Adelaide and Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Collaborations: Dr Asare has already established collaborative networks with leading research groups and clinicians in South Australia including the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Basil Hetzel Institute and Robinson Institute, that ensure access to a constant source of highly valuable well-categorized human sample.
Contribution to Research, Training and Profession: Dr Asare has successfully established all techniques crucial for successful completion of projects including ex vivo, in vitro and in vivo assessment and genotyping of human and murine airway samples, western blot, siRNA, microscopy, flow cytometry and Real-Time PCR.
