Marie Beillevert studied criminal law in France, specializing in European criminal law, and gained over five years of experience as a judge's assistant and legal counsel. In December 2023, she joined the FAME Strategy Sustainability project as a legal research assistant, where her work focuses on strengthening Australia's legal framework for environmental crime.
Building on that project, Marie recently began a PhD at the University of Adelaide under the supervision of Dr. Phillipa McCormack and Dr. Kellie Toole, and with the collaboration of Pr. Phil Cassey and the Wildlife Crime Hub. Her research is centered on the intersection of environmental and criminal law, with a specific focus on pollution regulation. It explores comparative criminal law frameworks addressing pollution in water in both Australia and Europe. By analysing legal definitions, prosecution practices, and penalties, her research aims to identify both the strengths and gaps within these systems. Ultimately, her work seeks to inform law reform and strengthen global efforts to combat environmental crime by contributing to the development of effective legal strategies and promoting international collaboration.
