Dr Margaret Becker is an Online Course Facilitator in Public Health at UniSA Online. As an OCF, Margaret is responsible for leading the development and delivery of teaching for UniSA Online students. Her role involves working closely with divisional staff at UniSA to provide high-quality online teaching to undergraduate students, and to coordinate the day-to-day activities of online tutoring staff.
Margaret is a social anthropologist with an interest in gender, critical development, women's empowerment, and health. She is passionate about rights and social justice. Margaret's PhD focused on women's development programs in Kathmandu, Nepal, where she undertook 12 months of ethnographic fieldwork working with women's organisations to understand women's understandings and experiences of 'empowerment'. Margaret is currently involved in research projects within South Australia that focus on social justice and inequities, including older women and housing, and regional business recovery from disaster. She brings her research experience to her teaching role.
Margaret has extensive teaching experience as a lecturer, course coordinator, mentor and tutor in online and on-campus delivery formats. Margaret has significant experience working with Aboriginal students as an academic mentor. She is passionate about student learning and the acquisition of knowledge and skills and their translation to real world contexts.
