My research focuses on studying the pathogenesis and evaluating various treatments in cellular and animal models of dementia. These include viral vector gene transfer, stem cell-based therapies and small molecule drugs for mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) IIIA, an early-onset neurological lysosomal storage disorder for which there is no treatment. I also have an interest in mouse behavioural phenotyping, given the importance of determining the effect of any future therapy in delaying, improving or normalising clinical symptoms. Over this time, I have line managed one Research Scientist and co-supervised four Honours/PhD students. More recently, I have collaborated on a project investigating the role of the endosomal/lysosomal system in the late-onset dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease.
