Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disorder affecting approximately 2% of the Australian population. It is characterised by chronic inflammation, joint destruction and pain. Cell death is known to be inhibited in joints of those with rheumatoid arthritis, extending the survival of inflammatory and bone resorbing cells, consequently exacerbating joint damage and pain. My research focuses on investigating local and systemic inflammation and bone loss in mouse models of inflammatory arthritis. As well as investigating the pain mechanisms associated with this joint damage. My research also aims to identify potential treatments that regulate cell death and pathways of inflammation and their overall impact on inflammation, bone destruction and pain.
