My work on the impact of maternal overnutrition on the programming of obesity and metabolic disease has made a significant contribution to current understanding of how exposure to maternal obesity and/or an excess nutrient supply before birth acts to alter the development of key systems involved in the regulation of energy balance. A key focus of my current research is identifying and testing nutritional interventions which can be applied during the perinatal period to improve metabolic health through the life-course, and I am currently leading basic science projects and clinical trials in this area. Since 2008, my work has included a specific focus on the role of maternal omega-3 fatty acid supplementation in determining growth and metabolic health of the infant and child, and I have published 15 original research papers and 4 reviews in the fatty acid field since 2012.
