Dr Shariful Islam is a Research Associate at the University of South Australia, specialising in biomaterials engineering, stem cell differentiation, and tissue engineering. He has extensive experience in the design and fabrication of functional hydrogels, nanostructured scaffolds, and peptide-based biomaterials for regenerative medicine applications.
Dr Islam completed his PhD at UNSW Sydney, where he investigated biomimetic hydrogels and engineered microenvironments to guide stem cell fate. His postdoctoral work spanned multidisciplinary projects, including iPSC differentiation, hydrogel–cell interactions, and mechanobiology. He has published in leading journals such as ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Acta Biomaterialia, and Small Science, and has co-authored multiple high-impact research articles.
He has over five years’ experience working in OGTR-certified PC2 laboratories and LEAF-accredited chemistry labs, with additional certifications in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Process Validation. His current research focuses on developing bioinspired materials for controlled stem cell differentiation, drug delivery, and tissue regeneration.
