Kuan is a seasoned academic with a wealth of experience in both the health and education sectors.
Prior to becoming an academic, he held several key management positions in the university sector, including managing university clinics and a clinical placement unit.
In addition, Kuan has demonstrated project management skills through his leadership of several initiatives worth $6.7 million aimed at improving clinical education, including the Health Workforce Australia Clinical Training Funding project, the Simulated Learning Environments project, and the Increased Clinical Training Capacity project (a collaboration between UniSA and Helping Hand Aged Care Inc). 
Kuan also served as the Principal Planner in SA Health at the Central Adelaide Local Health (CALHN) network in 2020, where he supported hospital bed planning for several major hospitals in the state and assisted in the CALHN command center to support COVID planning processes.
His current reserach interests are in telehealth, digital health, and tele-clinical trials, He is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and experience with current and future professionals.
