Michelle Harvey coordinates BUSS 1060 Career Development for Professionals and BUSS 2036 Training and Development, and has input into various other courses. She has collaborated with the Student Engagement Unit’s Careers Services Team to develop online career education resources and started work for UniSA as a Careers Adviser assisting students with career, employability, and job search matters. Before joining UniSA, Michelle was a career and outplacement specialist helping people transition from one career to another.
Michelle started her post-secondary studies with a Bachelor of Accountancy but became convinced her calling lay elsewhere. After reading What Color Is My Parachute by Richard Bolles, she took a year off, travelled around South America and South Africa, and became a travel agent. The following year Michelle wisely chipped away at the remainder of her degree.
Since then, Michelle has held positions across diverse areas including accounting, travel, government, human resources, small business ownership, outplacement, and education. She has sated the travel bug with many overseas adventures and undertaken post-graduate studies in Neuroscience, Career Education & Development, and Education Studies (Digital Learning).
These days, Michelle understands that gaining self-knowledge and career direction takes more than just reading a book (though that can be a start), and she enjoys teaching others about the multi-dimensional considerations of effective career planning and training & development.
Michelle takes particular interest in changes occurring in the labour market due to factors such as globalisation, automation, and technology. Other areas of interest include neuroscience, psychology, climbing walls, and off-road motorbike adventures.
