Lemuel is the Academic Lead for Preregistration Nursing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, College of Health, at Adelaide University. Prior to his appointment at Adelaide University, he held the roles of Professorial Lead (2022–2025) and Program Director (2019–2025) for Preregistration Nursing within the Clinical and Health Sciences academic unit at the University of South Australia. Since commencing as Academic Lead in 2026, Lemuel provides strategic and operational leadership across the preregistration nursing portfolio, including the Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing (Graduate Entry) programs. His responsibilities encompass oversight of teaching quality and program performance, curriculum integrity, accreditation, and continuous quality improvement. He leads accreditation and quality initiatives to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements and maintains and strengthens strategic partnerships with industry and key stakeholders. Lemuel also provides leadership and support to academic leaders and teaching teams across large, complex courses. Over many years, Lemuel has made sustained and significant contributions to nursing education through teaching, curriculum development, and course administration. His expertise includes academic program design, accreditation processes, and quality assurance, ensuring the delivery of high-quality nursing education aligned with professional and industry standards. With extensive experience in hybrid, digitally enabled learning environments, Lemuel has developed and implemented innovative strategies to enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, and academic success within large-scale programs enrolling more than 3,500 students.
Lemuel’s research focuses on rare diseases, with particular emphasis on the supportive care needs of parents of children with rare diseases and the evaluation of service provision models to improve care delivery for individuals and families living with rare diseases. He is a recognised leader in the field of rare diseases and supportive care, and he continues to make meaningful international contributions through collaborative research. He is the author of the Parental Needs Scale for Rare Diseases (PNS-RD), a validated 14-item instrument designed to assess the support needs of parents caring for a child with a rare disease. The PNS-RD is internationally recognised and widely used across rare disease populations to evaluate parental support needs and the effectiveness of service provision. Lemuel is also an experienced higher degree by research supervisor, supervising both Master’s and Doctoral candidates.
