Md. Shamim Anower is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Mechatronics Engineering at the University of South Australia (UniSA), Mawson Lakes, Australia. He is also a Professor (on leave) in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), Rajshahi-6204, Bangladesh. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, and both his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from RUET, Bangladesh. In recognition of his outstanding academic performance during his undergraduate studies, he was awarded the University Gold Medal which was ceremonially placed on him by the honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Dr. Anower is currently a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and a Member of IEEE, USA. At RUET, he served in several key roles, including Head of the Departments of EEE and ECE, Additional Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Member Secretary of the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC), and Coordinator for the preparation of the OBE curriculum and Self-Assessment Report for BAETE accreditation (a full signatory of the Washington Accord) for nine academic programs. He also served as the Organizing Secretary of the international conference ICEEE-2017 and the workshop WAP-2019, and as Treasurer of the international conference ICECTE-2016, all held at RUET. He is the founding Chairman of the EEE Alumni Association of RUET and the Convener of its inaugural reunion.
Throughout his academic career, he has supervised over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students, including 3 Ph.D. graduates, 11 M.Sc. graduates, and more than 70 B.Sc. graduates in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
He has successfully completed three funded research projects under the Directorate of Research and Extension (DRE), RUET, supported by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, with respective grant amounts of BDT 1,312,000 (AU$ 22,234), BDT 2,179,270 (AU$ 36,932), and BDT 1,000,000 (AU$ 15,384).
His research interests include, but are not limited to, Underwater Acoustic Signal Processing (Ph.D. thesis work), Power System Stability Augmentation (M.Sc. thesis work), Machine Learning Applications, Optical Sensor Design and Analysis, Power Electronic Device Design, Renewable Energy Technologies, Robotics and Automation, and Wireless Communication. Dr. Anower has published more than 200 research articles in books, international journals, and conference proceedings with publishers such as IEEE, JOSA, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley & Sons, MDPI, Hindawi, and Inderscience. As of 22 July 2025, his scholarly work has received 3,994 citations, with an h-index of 36 and an i10-index of 87 (Google Scholar).
