Associate Professor Hila Dafny is an accomplished nurse academic, researcher, and academic leader in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, College of Health at the University of Adelaide. She currently serves as Academic Lead – Teaching and Learning Quality and Students, providing strategic leadership to enhance educational quality, student experience, and academic standards.Associate Professor Dafny has extensive teaching and course coordination experience across undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher degree by research (HDR) programs in Australia and internationally, including at Adelaide University, University of South Australia, Flinders University, University of Southern Queensland, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her leadership in teaching is complemented by a strong commitment to student success, curriculum quality, and academic excellence.Her research focuses on workplace violence, burnout, and wellbeing in healthcare, with a particular emphasis on nursing and workforce sustainability. She has built a strong international research profile, with an H-index of 13 and over 50 peer-reviewed publications, the majority of which are published in Q1 journals. Her work has received significant international recognition, including multiple Top-Cited Article awards, identification of her workplace violence research among the top 10 most-cited papers in the Journal of Clinical Nursing, and Most Downloaded Paper awards in both the Journal of Clinical Nursing and the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. In 2025, she was also awarded the National Industry PhD Program (NIPHD) – Industry Researcher Award, reflecting the real-world impact of her research.Associate Professor Dafny demonstrates growing global influence through invited presentations at international conferences and strong HDR supervision outcomes, having supervised multiple PhD and Master's candidates to completion, primarily as principal supervisor. Her research impact is further evidenced by a ResearchGate interest score exceeding 97% of peers who began publishing in 2020.She holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Southern Queensland, where her doctoral research advanced understanding of nurses' experiences of physical and verbal workplace violence and its impact on care delivery and wellbeing. She also holds a Master of Public Health and Community Medicine and a Magna Cum Laude Bachelor of Nursing from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.Through her integrated leadership in teaching, research, and wellbeing, Associate Professor Dafny makes a significant contribution to healthier workplaces, safer healthcare environments, and thriving academic and clinical communities.

Associate Professor Hila Dafny has a PhD in Nursing from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Her doctoral research has contributed to the overall body of knowledge on workplace violence within the healthcare sector, as it examines nurses' perceptions of physical and verbal violence perpetrated by patients and visitors, and the ensuing impact on the nurses, including their ability to care for patients. The research also investigated nurses' perceptions of current workplace violence strategies and support services at a regional Queensland Hospital. Hila received Magna Cum Laude in Nursing from Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and also holds a Master's in Public Health and Community Medicine from the same institution.

Dr Dafny received the Top-Cited Article award, and her research on workplace violence, which she led, has been recognised as one of the top 10 most-cited papers published in the Journal of Clinical Nursing, highlighting its impact on Research, Community and Nursing.

Dr Dafny developed a strong publication record (13 H-index) in workplace violence, burnout and wellbeing, receiving international recognition as the international Top-Cited Article award for the top 10 most-cited papers and the most downloaded paper published in the Journal of Clinical Nursing (top 10% Q1) from John Wiley, demonstrating the impact of my study on research, nursing and communities. 

In 2024, Dr Dafny received recognition for the Most Downloaded Paper in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, and in 2025, she was awarded the National Industry PhD Program (NIPHD) – Industry Researcher Award. 

Over 50 publications, 46% were published as first author; 90% were published in Q1 journals, of which 45% were in the top 10% of Scopus journals by CiteScore. In a balanced position (teaching and research), Dr Dafny have contributed to 50 publications, and according to ResearchGate, her research interest score is higher than 97% of ResearchGate members who first published in 2020.

Dr Dafny's total research funding is $627,374.81, and she currently leads three research groups and collaborates with national and international researchers. Some of the grants included: 

2021-2022:   National Disability Research Program. Recipient of the Everybody's Game grant funds, which awarded the team $286,151.

2014-2016:   Internationally, one person chosen from all over the world to receive the Fellowships Fund Inc (FFI). Total of $84000, $2800 per year. 

I am an Associate Professor (Nursing) and researcher in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, College of Health at Adelaide University. I serve as the Academic Lead – Teaching and Learning Quality and Students. 

Teaching experiences and leadership

I have many years of experience in course coordination and teaching across a broad range of nursing courses in the nursing program, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and HDR completions at Australian and overseas universities (AU, UniSA, Flinders, UniSQ, HUJI). 

I teach clinical practice, clinical education, and evidence-based practice to undergraduate and postgraduate students. In 2021, I served at Flinders University as the First-Year Level Coordinator and Course Coordinator, contributing significantly to the curriculum, assessments, and content of the first-year NURS1002 topic, Context of Nursing and Primary Health Care (enrolling over 700 students), and leading a team of more than 40 staff members. I have experience teaching a wide range of topics, including Introduction to Nursing Praxis, Foundations of Nursing Practice, Acute and Chronic Care, Introduction to Research and EBP (UG and PG) and Communication for Nursing. In 2022-2023, I served as the coordinator of all Critical Care Postgraduate topics.
