The molecular control of cell migration and its role/s in regulating the immune response in autoimmunity and cancer, or during infection.

Professor McColl has made a number of important contributions in the area of the genetic and molecular control of cell migration.  These include seminal observations relating to chemotactic factor receptor signal transduction, particularly cytokine- and chemokine-induced phosphorylation cascades and gene expression, the identification of chemokine receptor antagonists that regulate cell migration and the identification of chemokine receptors that are involved in pathologies such as autoimmune diseases and metastatic cancer. His research also involves commercialisation of discoveries that focus on developing new cancer therapeutics.

He has published over 180 original research articles, has been cited almost 13,500 times and his H-index is 70.
