Professor Michael Gold is an Immunologist Allergist with established international and national profile in the field of vaccine safety and allergic disorders. Professor Gold has over 20 years of trials experience, both as principle investigator on investigator-led randomised trials and as co-investigator. His specific interests have been in the fields of paediatric food allergy and the surveillance of adverse events following immunisation. He has contributed to research which has received >$5 M in funding in the past 5 years. He has over 130 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed as lead academic author to a number of guidelines for the World Health Organisation (WHO). He has had professional involvement as an appointed member of the WHO Global Advisory Committee for Vaccine Safety as well as being an appointed expert to a number of Australian commonwealth vaccine safety advisory bodies. With the COVID-19 pandemic he has a part-time appointment as a vaccine safety consultant to the South East Asian Region of WHO and has contributed specifically to the global response to the investigation and management of COVID-19 vaccine allergy. His allergy-based research has focused on the prevention of food allergy (primarily egg allergy) with more recent contributions to multicentre trials investigating novel ways to treat peanut allergy.
