Professor

School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering

Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology

Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD - email supervisor to discuss availability.

Professor Zonghan Xie was raised in Huaibei, once a small town located in Eastern China's Anhui Province. His academic pursuits in the field of materials science began with studies in Metallic Materials and Heat Treatment at Northeastern University (Shenyang), followed by Metal Matrix Composites at Southeast University (Nanjing), both in China. Dr. Xie attained his PhD in Technical Ceramics from the University of New South Wales in 2004, made possible through the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship program funded by the Australian Government.

In that same year, he earned the distinction of an Australian Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the Australian Research Council, which facilitated his research into metallurgical coatings, in collaboration with the CSIRO Thin Films Group in Lindfield, Sydney. His subsequent appointments included serving as a research fellow at the University of Sydney Dental School and the Centre for Integrated Nanotechnologies at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico, USA.

Dr. Xie returned from LANL to Australia to spearhead a research group focusing on bio-inspired materials and surfaces at ECU in Western Australia. By July 2012, he had joined the University of Adelaide, specializing in high entropy alloys, calcified tissues and thin-film technology within the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Alongside his academic and research responsibilities, Professor Xie fulfils the role of Associate Dean (International) within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering, and Technology, orchestrating strategic partnerships with academic and research institutions across East and North Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea.
