Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD - email supervisor to discuss availability.

I am a professor of pure mathematics. I did my PhD at the University of Chicago and worked at universities in the US and Canada before joining the University of Adelaide in 2006. I do research in complex analysis and complex geometry and related areas of mathematics. I teach courses at all levels and supervise postgraduate students.

My main research area is holomorphic geometry.  My research has involved several other fields of mathematics, in recent years including, for example, dynamics, contact geometry, geometric invariant theory, and the theory of minimal surfaces.  I have active collaborations with mathematicians in several countries.

Since 2009, I have co-organised nine face-to-face conferences, conference sessions, and workshops in Europe, Canada, and Australia, and two international virtual conferences.  In August to November 2016, I was a research fellow at the Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in Oslo.  I regularly give invited talks at international conferences.

I was the sole chief investigator of a Discovery Grant entitled "Flexibility and symmetry in complex geometry" from the Australian Research Council in 2012-2014, and of a Discovery Grant entitled "Homotopical structures in algebraic, analytic, and equivariant geometry" in 2015-2017.

I teach courses at all levels, from large first-year courses to courses at the honours and master level.  I take an interest in pedagogy and teaching innovations.  I was the founder and convenor in 2014-2017 of the Learning and Teaching Working Group in the School of Mathematical Sciences.  I was the Director of Teaching of the School in 2013-2016, the Director of Teaching Development in 2017-2019, and the Director (Learning and Teaching) through 2020 until I took on the role of Interim Head of School in February 2021.  From mid-2018 to mid-2019, I was the Director (Learning Quality) in the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences.  I take a hands-on interest in school education.  I was an active member of Mathematicians in Schools from 2010 to 2017, and participated in the ChooseMaths national mentoring program for high-school girls in 2017-2018.
