Dr Eugene Roscioli is a medical biotechnologist and Principal Investigator for the Royal Adelaide Hospital and University of Adelaide (Lung Research Laboratory). He was awarded a PhD in medical biotechnology (July, 2014), and during his PhD candidature he won tuition and scholarship to complete an advanced degree in science and technology commerce. He is the current RAH Florey Research Fellow, for research to determine next generation antibiotics that mitigate off-target effects and the selection of antibiotic resistant bacteria. An expert in aberrant biochemical phenomena in disease, Dr Roscioli specialises in the identification, modelling and therapeutic targeting at the complex nexus bridging clinic inquiry and scientific discovery.

His group's research are a culmination of three WHO health priorities:
1) Identifying and targeting the pathological phenomena that cause chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which is predicted to be the world's leading cause of death by 2030
2) Overcoming the consequences of Haemophilus bacterial colonisation in the diseased airways
3) Correcting off-target effects of the world's most frequently prescribed antibiotics to address a major and under-recognised mechanisms driving antibiotic resistant bacteria

Dr Roscioli has achieved a number of research awards (e.g. Asia-Pacific Respiratory Society New Investigator Award, the Mary Overton Research Fellowship, $1.7 M funding), national and international peer recognition (e.g. multiple international collaborations, senior editor for SpringerNature, international conference chair, honour roll reviewer for the NHMRC), and he is a senior lecturer in the areas of medical biotechnology, pathology, and advanced research practices.
