Elizabeth Koch

Elder Conservatorium of Music

Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics

Elizabeth Koch is Associate Professor at the Elder Conservatorium of Music. She has been at the University of Adelaide since 2002 and was previously a member of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for 27 years. Elizabeth teaches the flute and is Head of Woodwind and Associate Director of Postgraduate Coursework Performance area.

I am an Education Specialist and my area of scholarship is the teaching of the classical flute. With my 27 years of orchestral experience in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, I am well qualified in the orchestral repertoire and the training of young flautists for the orchestral profession. My keen interest in flute and woodwind pedagogy has supported my training of young players to further their study interstate and at overseas institutions. I research the flute 'embouchure' and have analysed tone development to deliver the best sound and a large spectrum of colours in the sound. I research other teachers' methodologies though many overseas study trips and recent University Study Tours for credit. One of my main areas of scholarship is the development and analysis of practice techniques for students, something that is often overlooked in teaching.
