I have over thirty years of experience working for mining academic institutions and the industry. My research interests cover almost all components of the mining system, including:

1)   Stochastic rock fracture modelling, coupled hydro-thermo-chemical modelling of fluid flow in porous or fractured rock masses, hot dry rock enhanced geothermal systems and unconventional resources, statistics of porous media.

2)   Geostatistics, mineral resource evaluations, mine planning, operations research, mine to mill optimisation, mine finance, mineral economics, financial risk assessment.

3)   Rock mechanics, rock fracture mechanics, finite element method, boundary element method and discrete element method numerical modelling, rock fracture toughness testing (the method developed is now an ISRM suggested method), deterministic and probabilistic stability assessment of rock excavations.

4)  Rock fragmentation, rock dynamics and damage mechanics, rock burst, ground support.

5)  Innovative mining technologies, in-situ recovery of minerals, underground coal gasification and its impact on surrounding environment.
