Anita Is currently working in the Discipline of Psychiatry Baune Research group at the University of Adelaide. This multidisciplinary research involves the Psychiatric Biomarker Centre (PBC) at the University of Adelaide as well as national and international collaborators. Her research involves the identification and investigation into the role of neuroimmune biomarkers such as cytokines and oxidative stress molecules in psychiatric disorders.
As part of the Baune research team I am currently investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the bidirectional communication between the nervous and immune system, in particular psychiatric cohorts such as Depression, Psychosis, Mood Disorders, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Neurocognition. This unique and specialized Psychiatric biomarker facility will facilitate future research into the development of personalized therapeutic strategies for Neuropsychiatric disorders.
